Education & Board Certification
Omar M. Ismail, MD, obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham in 2019. After completing an internship at the University of Alabama Medical Center, he relocated to Houston to complete his residency in 2023 at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). He remained there to complete a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery in 2025 before joining Kelsey-Seybold in July 2025.
Dr. Ismail follows in the footsteps of his father, who ran his own primary care clinic for 30 years in Alabama before retiring. As an ophthalmologist, Dr. Ismail treats diseases of the eyes’ retina and vitreous, including diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, epiretinal membrane, and retinal detachment. He has a particular interest in helping patients with diabetic eye disease — but no matter which condition brings his patients to him, Dr. Ismail finds it incredibly rewarding to make a difference in the lives of others.
Philosophy of Care
To ensure his patients have the information they need to make informed decisions about their care, Dr. Ismail spends time explaining his patients’ conditions to them in terms they can understand while being respectful of them and their time. Above all, he treats his patients as he would his own family member.
Hobbies & Interests
Outside of caring for patients, Dr. Ismail enjoys playing and watching basketball, reading for leisure, and spending time with family.
