Alvaro R. Garcia, MD, attended Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico, earning his medical degree in 1984. He relocated to Stamford, Connecticut, where he completed his Family Medicine residency at St. Joseph Medical Center - New York University in 1990. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Garcia joined Kelsey-Seybold’s Family Medicine medical staff in January 2026 with more than 25 years of experience in primary care in Greater Houston.
Dr. Garcia pursued medicine thanks to inspiration from his father, who encouraged him to always seek out knowledge. As a Family Medicine physician, Dr. Garcia provides a broad spectrum of comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, including preventive care such as well checks and immunizations, along with care for acute illness and injuries and management of chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease. He also provides in-office surgical procedures such as joint injections. What Dr. Garcia most enjoys about being a physician is having the ability to get to know so many people. “Hundreds of my patients have been with me over 35 years and have become my friends,” he says.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Garcia prioritizes communication — both listening to and talking with his patients to get to know them and to best address their symptoms and concerns. He strives to be personable, compassionate, and honest with all his patients.
Hobbies & Interests
In his free time, Dr. Garcia enjoys growing his collection of bank notes, hunting and fishing, golfing, woodworking, and completing DIY projects around the house.
