Get Your Legs Ready for Summer with Sclerotherapy

September 04, 2018

What Is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure dermatologists use to help eliminate varicose and spider veins. It involves an injection directly into the affected vein. The injected solution irritates the lining of the vein, causing it to swell and stick together.

Over time, the vein turns into scar tissue that eventually fades from view and the best candidates are those with small veins.

Generally, spider veins respond to treatment in three to six weeks, and larger veins respond in three to four months. If the veins respond to the treatment, they usually won’t reappear. However, new veins may appear over time. If needed, you may return for more injections.

The number of veins injected during one session depends on the size and location of the veins, and your overall medical condition. Before the procedure, a consultation with dermatologist is required to evaluate your eligibility for sclerotherapy.

How Long Is the Treatment Process?

The procedure takes less than 30 minutes.

Does It Hurt?

Discomfort is minimal due to a small, fine needle being used for the procedure.

What’s the Recovery Process?

Compression pantyhose are worn immediately after procedure, and for 24 hrs afterwards and are used additionally for at least 2 weeks. There’s no exercise for 48 hrs post-procedure.

If you’d like to schedule a consult to determine if this procedure is right for you, please call 713-442-2222.
