Xavier A. Rice, MD, earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in Galveston in 2022. After completing an internship at John Peter Smith Hospital, he went to St. Louis, Missouri, to complete his Dermatology residency at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 2026. Dr. Rice joined Kelsey-Seybold’s Dermatology department as a board-certified dermatologist in August 2026.
Dr. Rice’s journey to medicine was inspired by watching his family’s challenges in navigating complex medical conditions — an experience that gave him a deep appreciation for the impact compassionate physicians can have during difficult times. As a dermatologist, he diagnoses and treats a wide range of skin, hair, and nail conditions. Patients may see Dr. Rice for common concerns such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin infections, rashes, hair loss, and skin cancer screenings. He has particular interest and experience in managing hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), keloids, pigmentary disorders, complex inflammatory skin diseases, and skin of color. He is particularly passionate about improving access to dermatologic care for underserved populations — and his favorite part of practicing medicine is building long-term relationships with patients and seeing the positive impact that treatment can have on their lives both physically and emotionally.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Rice listens carefully, communicates openly, and treats every patient with respect and empathy in an environment where they feel confident in asking questions and actively participating in their care. With a collaborative, compassionate, evidence-based approach grounded in patient education, he works with patients to develop realistic plans that fit their unique needs, preferences, and daily lives. Dr. Rice believes in treating each patient as he would want a member of his own family to be treated.
