KelseyCare Leads Texas Health Plans for 5th Consecutive Year
For five consecutive years, the KelseyCare health plan has outpaced the Texas statewide average in overall patient satisfaction
Houston (October 7, 2010) – According to the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey, for the fifth consecutive year Houston-based health plan "KelseyCare" powered by CIGNA leads Texas health plans in enrollee ratings of overall satisfaction with their health care. The survey included commercial health benefit plans in the Greater Houston area as well as Texas.
Ninety percent of KelseyCare enrollees ranked their "health care overall" at a seven or higher. Fifty-seven percent rated it at a nine or 10, which is the highest ranking possible. KelseyCare received the highest enrollee satisfaction ratings when compared to other health care plans across Texas and surpassed the state average of 48 percent.
Eighty-four percent of plan participants rated their "health care plan overall" at a seven or higher. Fifty-two percent of the enrollees gave the plan a nine or 10.
KelseyCare also leads all other health care plans in the state in "personal doctor overall" satisfaction with 70 percent satisfaction rating compared to the state average of 63 percent.
"With recent health care reform, there is much discussion about the benefits an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model like KelseyCare delivers to the patient as well as to overall employer value," says Dr. Patrick Carter, medical director of Care Coordination and Quality Improvement at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. "Considering KelseyCare's continued year-after-year success in overall enrollee satisfaction – consistently outpacing our competitors – we know the ACO model works to not only provide high-satisfaction, but also quality and value for patients and employers."
An ACO is responsible for quality of care and cost for a population of patients with a focus on care coordination, best practices and quality measurement.
The KelseyCare health care model is based on the delivery of high quality, "evidence-based" medical care in which physicians in multiple specialties share information and coordinate care on behalf of patients.
The CAHPS survey is conducted annually by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to independently measure and report consumers' evaluations of health care plans. KelseyCare is a product of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic and CIGNA Healthcare. Kelsey-Seybold is a nationally recognized medical group practice serving more than 400,000 unique patients in the greater Houston area.
