Kelsey-Seybold Completes $21.3 Million Cancer Center Expansion at Main Campus
Expanded Infusion Therapy and a state-of-the-art Radiation Therapy Suite featuring the TrueBeam™ technology are among some of the new offerings for patients
Houston (April 8, 2015) – After years of meticulous analysis, planning and execution, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic opened its $21.3 million Cancer Center in a new wing at the Main Campus. The more than 30,000 sq. ft. Cancer Center occupies the first and second floors of the new wing on the West side of the building. Kelsey-Seybold Clinic's Cancer Center is nationally accredited by the Commission on Cancer (COC).
"Through the years, we have built a Cancer Center – and a team of specialists – who work tirelessly to help ensure that our patients receive coordinated, evidence-based and life-saving care," said T.J. Patel, M.D. Chief of Hematology and Oncology, Kelsey-Seybold Cancer Center. "Expanding our in-house services will streamline the process for patients, while offering convenient care in an environment that was customized for an improved experience."
The addition of Radiation Oncology to Kelsey-Seybold's cancer services meant bringing in an experienced team to care for patients needing radiation treatment. When patients see us for treatment, they can be rest assured that they are being cared for by qualified and experienced professionals who are using cutting-edge advanced technology.
Radiation oncology is located on the first floor, with specially designed vaults for two Linear Accelerators. At this time, Kelsey-Seybold has outfitted one vault with Varian's TrueBeam™ a more precise radiation oncology treatment system that minimizes exposure to healthy tissue. The TrueBeam™ technology means Kelsey-Seybold can treat varying cancer cases – from common to complex. Click here for more information about Kelsey-Seybold Clinic's Radiation Therapy Suite.
The presence of a PET CT scanner in the Cancer Center not only provides an onsite diagnostic resource for our patients; it supports more complex treatment planning when needed.
In addition to Radiation Therapy and on-site PET CT, the new Cancer Center will feature more exam rooms and a specially designed Infusion Center area with increased capacity meeting the growing demand for cancer care in the community.
One of the aesthetic components of the new Cancer Center facility was to utilize natural lighting in as many patient care areas as possible – the infusion bay area features roomy inlets with wall-to-wall windows throughout. A lot of thought and research went into the design of our new Center at Main Campus – from the color scheme, to the flow of the patient areas – even the art work. We are very proud of this new space and hope that our patients find comfort when they are here.
The Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Cancer Center expansion was designed by Page Architects. Linbeck was the general contractor for this project.
