Cancer Survivors Day at Kelsey-Seybold
Houston (June 14, 2010) – A record number of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic cancer patients and their family and friends took part in a special event celebrating survivorship hosted by the Kelsey Research Foundation and Kelsey-Seybold. The National Cancer Survivors Day event, themed A Celebration of Life and Creativity, gave patients an opportunity to share their own unique stories of their personal experiences with an audience of more than 300 attendees.
The highlight of the celebration was the display of inspirational watercolor paintings and collages created during a therapeutic art exercise last spring by several Kelsey-Seybold patients, who are survivors of differing types of cancers, including breast, colorectal, prostate, melanoma and lymphoma cancers.
This year marks the third anniversary of Kelsey-Seybold’s Breast Cancer Support Group. This support group, sponsored by the Kelsey Research Foundation, the Kelsey-Seybold Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society, meets monthly at Kelsey-Seybold’s Main Campus near the Texas Medical Center. It is designed to help women learn to live, understand and cope with a diagnosis of breast cancer.
