Baby On The Way Expo

Expectant Parents: Don’t Miss Houston’s “Baby on the Way Expo”

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic brings together essential experts, baby gear gurus, and prenatal pampering professionals under one roof

Houston (April 15, 2019) – Can you give a newborn a bath before their umbilical cord falls off? What should we do if our baby doesn't have a good latch? How do you install a rear-facing car seat? Expectant parents – both new and new again – may have an overwhelming number of questions regarding parenthood and childrearing.

To help answer some of those questions, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic will host the first Baby on the Way Expo on Saturday, May 4 at its Main Campus: 2727 West Holcombe Blvd., in Houston. Registration for the event begins at 8:30 a.m., and the expert panel keynote – Transitioning into Parenthood – will kick off the event at 9 a.m., followed by a series of workshops beginning at 10 a.m.

"Transitioning to parenthood is one of the single most significant periods in a person's life," said Paul Itam, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., OB/GYN at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic – Cypress and The Vintage Clinics. "It's hard to know who to turn to when parenting questions come up – every veteran parent is an expert on some level – but times change. Kelsey-Seybold's Baby on the Way Expo brings together all the experts that a new parent – or a new-again parent – needs to answer those questions."

Car seat installation is different now than it was five years ago. New breastfeeding techniques can address challenging situations that would have ended the chances of a successfully breastfed baby years ago. While the goal may be the same now as it was "back then," navigating newborn care – including bathing – is a whole different ball game because of the plethora of products and gear available to parents now that weren't available in generations past.

"So much about baby care changes year-to-year, and what's even more challenging is that every parent and newborn is different. What works for one family may not work for another. It's important to have experts you can trust to give you the most current – and most accurate – information about caring for your newborn baby," said Kara Carter, M.D., pediatrician at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic – Katy. "New parents need all the support they can get, and Kelsey-Seybold's Baby on the Way Expo will bring experts together who are in touch with the latest information on how to navigate that first year of life with your sweet little bundle."

Baby on the Way Expo attendees will receive a swag bag filled with useful samples and have the opportunity to meet and greet with vendors specializing in baby care and gear, including: Peg-Pѐrego, UPPAbaby, Diono, Petunia Pickle Bottom, Boppy, UnbuckleMe, Nightlight Pediatrics, Momology, The Pampered Pickle, Beechnut, Bay Area Breastfeeding & Education, FIT4MOM, CBR, Cryo-Cell, and MilkLove. Baby's & Kid's 1st, will provide demonstrations with new baby gear as well as a car seat safety class. Well Family Houston will offer moms a special VIP (Very Important Preggo) lounge with MOMosas, massages, and meditation. Attendees will also have the opportunity to win one of four Britax prize packs, including car seats and stroller systems. Moms with nursing children will have access to a breastfeeding lounge.
