Botox Injections for Wrinkles

Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox, is a popular nonsurgical procedure for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, rejuvenating the aging face and treating frown lines, crow’s feet or forehead lines. The effects are not permanent, but the injections can be performed quickly, require little to no recovery time, and are not as complicated as many other cosmetic procedures.

When a small amount of Botox is injected into a muscle, it blocks nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. The effect temporarily weakens or paralyzes the facial muscles and helps smooth or eliminate wrinkles in the skin. Results are temporary, typically lasting three to four months.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are another popular nonsurgical option for helping to solve aging skin problems. They help to diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness to the face. Dermal fillers, unlike Botox injections that relax the muscle under a wrinkle, fill in the forehead line or crease. As a result, the line and crease nearly disappears.

Dermal fillers can also be used as “volumizers,” by plumping and lifting cheeks, filling out thin lips and improving the appearance of recessed scars. Your dermatologist can determine the best type and volume of filler needed for your particular areas of concern and can carefully explain the longevity of your results.

Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure dermatologists use to help eliminate varicose and spider veins. It involves an injection directly into the affected vein. The injected solution irritates the lining of the vein, causing it to swell and stick together. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that eventually fades from view.
Generally, spider veins respond to treatment in three to six weeks, and larger veins respond in three to four months. If the veins respond to the treatment, they usually will not reappear. However, new veins may appear over time. If needed, you may return for more injections.
The number of veins injected during one session is dependent on the size and location of the veins, and your overall medical condition. Before the procedure, it’s best to consult with your dermatologist to evaluate your eligibility for sclerotherapy.

Chemical Peels

Sun exposure, acne or aging can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred. A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to smooth the texture of your skin by removing its damaged outer layers. The chemical used in the cosmetic procedure causes the skin to peel off. Between the next one to 14 days, new skin will appear.
All peels require follow-up care from your dermatologist. You will be given specific instructions to follow, which will include everything from how to wash your skin to sun protection.

Before you decide to have a chemical peel, talk to your dermatologist about the kind of results you can expect. Chemical peels are not a permanent solution for skin discoloration, dull complexions or acne.

Ear Lobe Repairs

Torn or split earlobes can occur from trauma or long-term use of heavy earrings. Ear lobe repair is a simple 15 to 20 minute outpatient procedure. After removing the damaged portion of the skin, small sutures are placed to bring the skin together. Depending on the type of suture used, you may have to return for suture removal.
Explain to your dermatologist what you would like your ear lobe to look like after the repair and whether you plan to wear earrings in the future.

Skin Tag Removal

A skin tag is a small, benign skin growth that usually appears on the neck, chest, back, armpit or eyelid. In most cases, skin tags are harmless but can be another indicator of aging. Your dermatologist can remove a skin tag by excision with sterile scissors or scalpel, with cryosurgery (freezing it off), or with electrosurgery (burning it off with an electric current). Skin tag removal is generally not covered by insurance. The procedure may require a longer visit depending on how many are being removed.

Discuss with your dermatologist to determine the safest way for removing a skin tag.

Facial Vein Treatment (laser)
You may develop facial veins for a variety of reasons including: overexposure to the sun, hormone changes, trauma or genetics. Facial veins are dilated blood vessels that are commonly found on the cheeks or around the nose.

Depending on the severity of your condition, laser treatments are a popular option for reducing and eliminating the veins. Generally, treated facial spider veins eventually fade away completely. The healing process can take anywhere from two weeks to a month.

This procedure is offered only at our Tanglewood Clinic.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is an in-office skin enhancing procedure in which the top layers of the skin are gently removed, leaving the skin feeling softer and smoother. This nonsurgical skin rejuvenation treatment helps improve the appearance of scars, sun damage, age spots, skin discoloration, acne scarring, stretch marks and clogged pores.

Microdermabrasion is performed with a stream of fine crystals which are placed on the skin’s surface and then removed via vacuum, removing the damaged cells to reveal fresh, invigorated skin. To achieve maximum results, several treatments are recommended, scheduled one to two weeks apart.

Our board-certified dermatologists will work closely and carefully with you to evaluate your concerns and recommend the appropriate treatment plan to achieve optimum results.

Offered only at our Tanglewood Clinic, the pulsed dye laser or V-beam laser treatment is another option for patients experiencing redness from acne, spider veins, rosacea or other vascular-related conditions. It delivers an intense but gentle burst of light into selected target areas of the skin. Factors such as the skin’s age, color and condition will be determining factors in the outcome.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis.
