Kelsey Research Foundation To Host Health Services & Outcomes Research Conference

“Improving the Quality of Patient Care”
 
Kelsey Research Foundation, the non-profit research affiliate of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, will host its Fifth Annual Houston Area Health Services & Outcomes Research Conference at the Houston Marriott Medical Center, located at 6580 Fannin, on Tuesday, Nov. 9 from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. The conference will feature presentations and workshops on improving the quality of patient care, with an emphasis on effectiveness, efficiency, equity, timeliness, patient-centered care and patient safety.
 
Carol M. Ashton, M.D., M.P.H., Director of the Houston Center for Quality of Care and Utilization Studies, one of the nation’s Health Services Research and Development Centers of Excellence, funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs, will deliver a keynote address. The theme of her address is “Quality of Care: Effectiveness, Efficiency, and Equity from a health services research perspective.” Dr. Ashton’s longstanding research interest is in the assessment and improvement of quality of care, from the level of the individual patient and doctor all the way up to the level of the health care system.
 
Also scheduled to speak is Nancy W. Dickey, M.D., President, Health Science Center and Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs for The Texas A&M University System. Dr. Dickey will present “Quality of Care: Medical Practice and Policy Issues.”
 
State and national experts from health organizations and institutions such as Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Pritzker School of Medicine, Scott & White Clinic, Texas A&M University, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health, University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School will be on hand to provide additional information on improving the quality of patient care.

This is the fifth annual Houston area conference hosted by Kelsey Research Foundation, which is devoted to improving the quality of patient care and health outcomes through research and education. “This annual conference provides a forum for researchers, physicians, nurses and healthcare administrators to discuss specific interventions to improve the quality of patient care,” said Anthony Greisinger, PhD, Vice President for Research and Development at the Foundation.
