Planning a “Touch Up” Before Vacation? Kelsey-Seybold Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery Experts Say to Factor In Weeks, Sometimes Months to be Summer Ready
Houston (March 29, 2016) – Springtime is often thought of as a time of rebirth. The same can be said for people looking to enhance their appearance with cosmetic procedures before frolicking outdoors in the warm (or hot) summer months. When it comes to unveiling the new you, timing is crucial.
"We encourage patients considering any cosmetic procedure or surgery to make a decision as early in the year as possible – summer is around the corner and most patients want to be looking and feeling their best by June," said Jamal Bullocks, M.D., F.A.C.S., Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeon at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. "Both surgical, non-surgical and even non-invasive procedures all require time to realize the full effect or for a complete healing."
Common procedures patients are asking for in preparation for the summer months (and wedding season) include breast surgery, body contouring and facial procedures, including face lifts, brow lifts, rhinoplasty (nose job), blepharoplasty (eyelid tuck) and chemical laser resurfacing which treats wrinkles, liver/age spots, uneven skin tone/texture, scars and sun-damage.
"Surgical procedures like breast surgery, body contouring and facial surgery will require at least 2 weeks of down time and up to twelve weeks before all the swelling, bruising and scaring is healed," said Dr. Bullocks. "Many non-invasive procedures like CoolSculpting have very little to no down-time, but may need as much as 8 weeks for patients to see the full effects. Even procedures like a chemical peel or skin resurfacing with a Fraxel Laser will cause sun sensitivity for up to six weeks."
The Kelsey-Seybold plastic surgery and cosmetic dermatology team offers procedures to enhance features using state-of-the-art technology, from breast augmentation to brow lifts; CoolSculpting to Fraxel laser skin resurfacing.
"Our patients are looking for us to help guide their decision-making as well as expert execution of the prescribed procedures," said Dr. Bullocks. "Our highly trained cosmetic and plastic surgery team members work with patients every day to help them feel and look their best, enhancing natural beauty using the technology and tools to help us achieve those results with as little down time as possible – but even the less invasive procedures require time before you unveil the totally new you."
