Kelsey Research Foundation Honors Dr. Spencer Berthelsen at 22nd Annual Golf Classic

Funds raised will benefit patient education and research programs

Houston (May 19, 2016) - On May 2, Kelsey Research Foundation scored a hole-in-one at its 22nd Annual Golf Classic, raising $237,000. The event was held at the Quail Valley Golf Club where more than 200 golfers hit the links.

Funds raised through the Annual Golf Classic benefit Kelsey Research Foundation, the research affiliate of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Houston's largest community-based multispecialty physician group.

"Kelsey Research Foundation has raised millions of dollars in support of a variety of research projects and patient education and support programs," said Dr. Herbert DuPont, president and CEO of Kelsey Research Foundation. "The money raised this year will help us continue our organization's mission to fund exciting and promising research and programs that are meaningful to Houston-area residents."

This year, Kelsey Research Foundation selected Spencer Berthelsen, managing director of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, as the honorary chairman of the tournament. Kelsey Research Foundation's newest initiative – the Program for the Restoration of Intestinal Microbiota – is named in honor of Dr. Berthelsen and his unwavering commitment to the foundation and improving healthcare in the Greater Houston area.

Top sponsors of this year's tournament included: Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, Gamma Construction and NRG Energy, Inc.

"This golf tournament wouldn't be what it is today without the generous donations from our sponsors – and our volunteers," said Ashley Alexander, executive director, Kelsey Research Foundation. "The Golf Classic was a resounding success because of the commitment of many – sponsors, volunteers, and golfers."
