Kelsey-Seybold Board of Managers Elects New Chairman, Tony Lin, M.D., F.H.M.

Dr. Lin to become the new chairman, focusing on new innovations

Houston (May 5, 2016) – On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Board of Managers unanimously elected Tony Lin, M.D., F.H.M., an internal medicine physician specializing in hospitalist medicine, as the new Chairman of the Board. Dr. Lin was appointed the Chairman Designate in 2011 and has spent the last five years working closely with Spencer Berthelsen, M.D., F.A.C.P., the outgoing Chairman, to carefully plan the transition with the goal of continuity in the organization's day-to-day operations, focusing on the practice's overall mission, vision and goals.

"I have no doubt that the future will see Kelsey-Seybold's continued growth and that this organization will lead innovations to improve the quality of care and manage total medical costs under Dr. Lin's leadership."

Dr. Berthelsen has served as the Chairman of the Board of Managers for 15 years, comprised of three five-year terms, the maximum number of terms an individual can serve in this role. He will continue to serve as the Managing Director of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic until his retirement, scheduled for March 2017.

"His big picture perspective and the way in which he conducts business, calmly and always respectfully, were key to the successes he championed for the organization. I plan to espouse the same values and character, fostering a spirit of innovation amongst our leadership team and employees during my tenure as chairman."

Tony Lin, M.D., F.H.M., joined Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in 1993 and has held many leadership positions within the organization, including Chief of Internal Medicine for 15 years, Associate Medical Director for Hospital Services for 15 years, Kelsey-Seybold Board Member for 9 years and many other committee roles. Dr. Lin also played an integral role in the multispecialty group's development as an accredited Accountable Care Organization (ACO), having built the hospitalist and palliative care programs from the ground up. In 2012, Kelsey-Seybold was named the first Accredited Accountable Care Organization in the United States by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). 

Dr. Lin is a graduate of Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine-affiliated hospitals. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine.  Dr. Lin was named a Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine (F.H.M.) and is a member of the prestigious Texas Club of Internists.  He is also a member of the American College of Physicians, the Texas Medical Association and the Harris County Medical Society.

Dr. Lin grew up in Houston where he attended HISD schools and developed a strong sense of community that drives his ongoing participation in various church ministries, community events and mission trips with the Fort Bend Community Church. Dr. Lin also is an avid sports fan. He and his wife of 26 years enjoy cheering for their two daughters who are very active in Junior Club Volleyball.
