Fraxel® Laser Treatment

Our dermatologists use advanced technologies, including the Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing treatment, to help restore skin to its youthful appearance.

Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing is FDA-approved and uses “fractional” (or low-level) laser technology to help smooth and refresh your skin with improved tone and texture. This in-office procedure helps reduce age spots, acne scars, sun damage, and “laugh lines."

The treatment can be used on almost any area of the body, including the face, neck, hands, and underarms. With knowledgeable Kelsey-Seybold dermatologists performing the treatment, it’s even safe for those delicate areas around the eyes.

With over a decade of treatments to date, the FDA-approved Fraxel® technology gets results, but everyone’s circumstances are different. Before treatment, our dermatologists will explain specific techniques, results, and any possible risks involved to help you decide if laser resurfacing is right for you.

Before and After Your Treatment

The Fraxel® procedure is an in-office procedure that usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. Patients should consider wearing loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.

A soothing, topical anesthetic will be applied to your skin prior to laser treatment. The physician’s assistant will apply a thin layer of gel over the desired area receiving treatment. A hand-held component will glide across your skin, delivering short bursts of light-based energy into the top layer of the targeted skin.

For optimal results, contingent on skin condition and the level of correction required, additional treatments may be performed at intervals recommended by the physician.

After treatment, your skin will need some extra TLC to facilitate healing and maximize results.

Your Kelsey Pharmacy carries SkinCeuticals products, including the Post Procedure Kit for key components of healing, containing:

  • Biocellulose Restorative masks (2)
  • Hydra Balm
  • Epidermal Repair Cream
  • Physical UV Defense SPF 30

Our dermatologists also recommend daily use of SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic Antioxidant Serum after treatment. The SkinCeuticals Phyto-Corrective Mask can provide cooling, soothing relief and help diminish redness during your recovery. Our patient coordinator will also help you choose the right long-term medical-grade skincare regimen for your skin.

Fraxel® FAQs

What is the recovery time following Fraxel® laser treatment?

For a few hours after the procedure, your skin may feel like you have a mild sunburn. For five to seven days afterward, your skin may appear somewhat swollen with redness resembling sunburn, but it means the treatment is beginning to work.

Is the procedure painful?

Most patients report that the procedure isn’t painful, but individual sensitivity may vary. You can expect to feel a warm prickly feeling during the short light-energy laser bursts.

When will my skin start showing improvement?

How soon your skin appears renewed and refreshed depends on your level of treatment. Soon after treatment, your skin may become dry and flaky because it’s making way for rejuvenated tissue. After a few days, your skin should start looking more revitalized and refreshed. After six to eight weeks, as the tissue heals, your skin’s appearance will continue to improve. To ensure proper healing, we recommend you apply a sunblock with an SPF of 30 to treated areas daily.

How long do Fraxel® results last?

On average, Fraxel® results last up to 12 months, but long-term individual results can vary depending on the condition of the skin prior to the procedure.

Am I a candidate for Fraxel®?

Fraxel® may be a good option for you if you are in overall good health and want a nonsurgical option for reducing skin imperfections, such as age spots and acne scarring. But you should have a consultation with a Kelsey-Seybold Dermatology specialist to determine if Fraxel® laser resurfacing is for you.

How do I schedule an appointment with a Fraxel® specialist?

Call us at 713-442-1111, Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, to schedule a consultation.

How much does Fraxel® laser treatment cost?

Fraxel® isn’t covered by insurance, so costs are out of pocket and vary from patient to patient depending on how much treatment is needed. During your consultation, our patient coordinator can help determine your costs.
