KRF President and CEO Dr. DuPont Receives Award

HOUSTON (September 01, 2015) – On Aug. 19, Herbert L. DuPont, M.D., M.A.C.P., president and C.E.O. of Kelsey Research Foundation was one of 79 UT System professors to receive the Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award. Dr. DuPont is also a professor and director of the Center for Infectious Diseases at UTHealth's School of Public Health.

"Teaching has been a life-long passion of mine and receiving this prestigious award validates that in some small way; perhaps my work has helped others grow, learn and improve," said Dr. DuPont. "As an educator, we're planting seeds in our students that blossom at various rates – that's why it's important to keep them interested, make the information easy to understand and always offer yourself up as a mentor."

Since 2008 when the awards were created, the regents have awarded more than $15 million to recognize faculty members who delivered the highest quality of instruction in the classroom, laboratory, field and online.

"Good teachers do what is expected of them. Great teachers go above and beyond what is expected and that is why Dr. DuPont is being recognized by the UT Regents," said Spencer R. Berthelsen, M.D., F.A.C.P., Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. "His reputation as a physician, researcher and teacher precedes him and we congratulate him for receiving this prestigious award."

Each of the award recipients received a $25,000 cash award from the UT System Board of Regents for excellence and innovation.
