WHY:
Childhood obesity has become a national health crisis. According to a 2004 report by the Institute of Medicine, approximately 9 million American children over age 6 are considered obese. But there is good news. Most cases of childhood obesity can be controlled and reversed through simple lifestyle changes such as healthier diet and more exercise, which is why it's especially important for parents to learn about nutrition and exercise and ways to reduce their child's risks.
