Choosing a Pediatrician

Choosing a pediatrician is one of the most important decisions a parent will make. At Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, our pediatricians are specialists in the care of infants, children and adolescents.

We understand the special trust you place in us and we're committed to providing you with quality care in a location that is close and convenient. Our clinic combines the expertise of 350-plus physicians, including more than 50 pediatric specialists, practicing at our Main Campus at 2727 West Holcombe Boulevard and at 17 neighborhood locations throughout Houston.

Whether you're expecting your first baby, you've just moved to town, or you've changed insurance providers, it's a good idea to select a pediatrician, so you'll be prepared if a medical need or emergency arises.

To assist you in making that decision, we've included answers to frequently asked questions and information about some unique services available at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, including after-hours answers from registered nurses for urgent medical questions and our 24/7 appointment scheduling. Our pediatricians welcome the opportunity to serve you and your growing family.

I'm expecting. When should I choose a pediatrician?
It is generally recommended that you think about selecting a pediatrician for your child about the sixth month of pregnancy. You may want to meet with the pediatrician prior to your baby's birth. At Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, we have more than 50 pediatricians and three full-time pediatric "hospitalists," medical doctors who specialize in the care of infants, children and adolescents during their hospital stay. We also have pediatric and adolescent specialists in Allergy, Dermatology Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pulmonary Medicine and Radiology.

How do I know if my pediatrician is qualified?
Check your pediatrician's education and credentials. All of our pediatricians have completed a medical degree at an accredited university and are licensed by the Texas Board of Medical Examiners. Most are board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, meaning that they have extensive experience, passed a rigorous test, and have met higher professional qualifications. Many serve as faculty members at Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Why should I choose a Kelsey-Seybold pediatrician?

Do Kelsey-Seybold pediatricians have privileges at Texas Children's Hospital and other hospitals around Houston?
Kelsey-Seybold Clinic is one of the oldest physician groups affiliated with Texas Children's Hospital. Our pediatricians have privileges at hospitals inside and outside the Texas Medical Center, including Texas Children's Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, The Woman's Hospital of Texas, Kingwood Medical Plaza, Methodist Sugar Land Hospital and many others.

What if I choose a pediatrician in an outlying area and my child is admitted to Texas Children's Hospital?
Kelsey-Seybold Clinic has Pediatric "Hospitalists," medical doctors who specialize in the care of hospitalized patients. If you are referred to a Kelsey-Seybold hospitalist, the hospitalist will be there for you and your family, coordinating in-hospital care while your primary care physician will provide follow-up care after your child's discharge from the hospital.
