3D Mammography (Breast Tomosynthesis)

Breast tomosynthesis is an FDA-approved 3D technology that helps our physicians detect smaller tumors sooner.

This is an exciting technology that allows better visualization of the breast tissue. The 3D imaging technology helps see inside the breast. This helps to reduce or eliminate problems caused by overlying dense tissue.

Recent studies have demonstrated that adding a 3D mammogram (breast tomosynthesis) to a 2D mammogram provides more detailed information. This is an optional exam that can be used with digital mammography.

At this time, breast tomosynthesis is not covered by all insurances and is offered by Kelsey-Seybold at the Main Campus, Woman's Center, Fort Bend Medical and Diagnostic Center, Pasadena Clinic, Pearland Clinic, Spring Medical and Diagnostic Center and The Woodlands Clinic. If you would like to add breast tomosynthesis to your mammogram, the charge is $50. Kelsey-Seybold will bill your insurance for a 2D mammogram and if your insurance does not cover breast tomosynthesis,  you will pay the additional $50 at the time of service.

Digital Mammography Is Standard of Care

Digital technology is still considered the standard of care for mammography. Many Kelsey-Seybold locations offer digital mammography. In addition, our Main Campus, Woman's Center, Fort Bend Medical and Diagnostic Center, Pasadena Clinic, Pearland ClinicSpring Medical and Diagnostic Center and The Woodlands Clinic, are now offering breast tomosynthesis as an optional exam used with digital mammography.
