What Are Fraxel Laser Treatments?

May 23, 2020

Laser treatments use safe, FDA-approved technology to improve skin

I’ve heard Fraxel laser treatments improve appearance for a younger, refreshed look. Does it really work? Is it painful? How much downtime is involved after treatment?

“Fraxel laser treatments can significantly improve the appearance of a variety of skin problems,” says Mohsin Mir, M.D., a board-certified physician specializing in Dermatology and Mohs surgery at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. “Patients usually report a tingling sensation reminiscent of a mild sunburn after treatment. Depending on their skin condition and selected procedure, patients may experience anywhere from no downtime to several days.”

He says treatments can improve the appearance of common skin-related issues, including:

  • Acne and surgical scars
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven pigmentation caused by age spots or sun damage

Fraxel laser treatments

Fraxel® Laser Skin Resurfacing is safe, FDA-approved technology using controlled, low levels of energy to help rejuvenate, smooth and refresh the appearance of almost any area of your skin with improved tone and texture, Dr. Mir explains.

“A topical anesthetic is applied to your skin. Then, a hand-held component glides across your skin, delivering short bursts of light-based energy into the top layer of targeted skin. Fraxel treatments stimulate collagen to resurface your skin,” he says. “Your skin’s natural rejuvenation processes help reduce lines and wrinkles.”

Day of procedure

“The procedure usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes and is performed in a relaxing, private room in Kelsey-Seybold’s Tanglewood Clinic. It can benefit the appearance of men and women alike of almost any age,” concludes Dr. Mir. For more information, call 713-442-1111
