Chiropractic Treatment For Neck & Back Pain

March 26, 2018

Depending on the exact cause of your pain, chiropractic treatment could offer a good deal of relief for your neck and back discomfort without surgery, says Dr. Amy Turner, a chiropractic specialist at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic.

According to Dr. Turner, neck and back pain is frequently caused by muscle spasms, pinched nerves, or poor posture stressing the musculoskeletal system. She says these conditions often respond quite favorably to chiropractic adjustments.

“Anyone dealing with persistent pain in their neck or back should be examined by a medical doctor or chiropractor before returning to their normal activities,” she cautions. “Otherwise, they can worsen their condition.”

Dr. Turner also cares for patients with “whiplash,” an injury typically affecting muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

“When the neck is forced beyond the normal range of motion – as in auto accidents, contact-sports or accidental falls – the patient may suffer a whiplash injury,” she says. “Manual manipulation and pressure techniques can help provide considerable pain relief.”

For more serious injuries, Dr. Turner may refer patients to another specialist or an Interventional Pain Management physician.

“Preventing neck and back problems can be the healthiest option of all. Try to maintain a healthy weight range, practice good posture, and exercise regularly,” she concludes.
