After earning his medical degree from Cairo University in 1993, Dr. Sewielam went to The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston where he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In 2004, he completed a residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in Pain Management. He was chief resident during his training and the recipient of several awards, including the Oliver R. Smith, Jr., M.D., Award for Excellence during his residency. Dr. Sewielam completed an Interventional Pain Fellowship at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He is certified as a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP), the highest distinction for an interventional pain physician from the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians.

Dr. Sewielam is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians,  Spine Universe of Professionals, Texas Medical Association, Harris County Medical Society and the World Institute of Pain.

Hobbies and Int​erests

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Sewielam enjoys hitting the road on his motorcycle.

​Chronic pain is a disease and our team approaches it through a multi-modality approach to help improve patients’ lifestyles and the way they function. I like to provide my patients with ample information about their chronic pain and the different pain management options available to them.

Awards & Recognitions

​Dr. Ahmed I. Sewielam has been recognized with a prestigious national recognition for excellence in providing patients with superior back pain care by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The NCQA Back Pain Recognition Program (BPRP) was designed to improve the quality of care to the nearly 30 million Americans who experience low back pain and motivate other clinicians and chiropractors to document and improve their delivery of spine care.

Research and Publica​​tions

Dr. Sewielam’s has been the principal investigator in multiple pain management studies and has several research articles and cases studies on pain management to his credit.
