Growing up, her family lived in a rural area without a doctor nearby. She remembers seeing people suffering from illnesses with no one to take care of them. They needed to be transported long distances for treatment. Her grandfather died of bladder cancer because of late diagnosis. All of this left an impression on her and helped form a desire to become a physician so she could help those who need it most. The best piece of advice she has ever received was from her teacher in medical school who said, “Always treat others the way you want yourself or your family to be treated.”The most beautiful place Dr. Kalair has visited is Maui, Hawaii, which has “beautiful beaches with clear, sparkling water, mountains, and magnificent sunrises and sunsets.”Her guilty pleasure is the occasional slice of chocolate cake.
