Dr. Abbara received his medical degree from Damascus University College of Medicine, Syria in 1997. He completed his internship and residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2004. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Professional Associations

Dr. Abbara is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the Texas Medical Association and the Harris County Medical Society. 

Hobbies and Interests

When not caring for patients, Dr. Abbara enjoys table tennis, swimming and reading.

Awards & Recognitions

​Dr. Abbara has been recognized with a prestigious national certification for excellence in caring for diabetic patients, awarded by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Certification through NCQA’s national Diabetes Recognition Program comes after a comprehensive, individualized review process to verify a physician’s adherence to national standards of excellence in caring for patients diagnosed with diabetes. ​

In addition, Dr. Abbara has been recognized for providing outstanding cardiovascular and stroke care by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) Heart/Stroke Recognition Program. Recognition through the Heart/Stroke Recognition program is achieved as the result of a comprehensive, individualized review process that verifies a physician’s adherence to national standards of excellence in caring for patients with cardiovascular disease or who have had a stroke.​
In addition, Dr. Abbara was awarded the American Physician Recognition Award (PRA) by the American Medical Association for his commitment to patient care through continuing medical education.
