Dr. Katherynn Tran earned her Bachelor of Science in psychology in 2002, graduating summa cum laude at the University of Houston. In 2006, she received her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center McGovern Medical School. She completed the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton Family Medicine Residency Program in Oceanside, Calif., in 2009.

From 2009 to 2011, Dr. Tran served as a Family Medicine physician at the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan, and as a member of the fleet surgical team deployed on the USS Essex. From 2011 to 2015, she served as Senior Medical Officer at the Naval Branch Health Clinic Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth. This included 10 months as Department Head of Health Services. Dr. Tran also served as a Family Medicine physician at the John Bradley Branch Clinic in Quantico, Va., from May 2013 to August 2013. In 2015, she served as Regimental Surgeon/Department Head of the 11th Marines Regimental Aid Station at Camp Pendleton, Calif., a position she held until joining Kelsey-Seybold in 2017.

Dr. Tran is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Tran enjoys traveling, reading, and trying new foods.

Fun Facts

Dr. Tran doesn’t drink but makes a mean mojito. She likes to drive fast and doesn’t like iceberg lettuce.

The best advice she’s ever received is “It’s OK to make mistakes, but learn from them.”

Dr. Tran lived in Okinawa for two years, which was very different from life in the United States. She has traveled to Singapore and Korea and can’t wait to go back. She also loved visiting Venice and Greece.

Not everyone knows this about Dr. Tran, but she studies while listening to techno or hip/hop music. Her guilty pleasures are otoro (fatty tuna), uni (sea urchin), and foi gras (fatty duck liver).
