Dr. Hiba Ali earned her Bachelor of Science in biology in 2011 at the University of Houston, where she graduated summa cum laude. She completed her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2017, graduating magna cum laude, at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine in 2020 at Baylor college of Medicine in Houston. She joined Kelsey-Seybold as a hospitalist in September 2020.

Dr. Ali enjoys running, traveling, hiking, painting, and baking.

Dr. Ali is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, Alpha Omega Alpha, and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

The best advice Dr. Ali has ever received is: “The years will go on. Find what you are truly passionate about and pursue it.”

Dr. Ali lived in Ecuador for a month during medical school as part of her Global Health training and loved learning about the different local cultures and exploring the beautiful, diverse landscape.

​I care for my patients as if they were my own family members. I believe in educating my patients about their medical illnesses so they can be empowered to advocate for themselves and continue to care for themselves even after they leave the hospital.

  • 2020: Understanding Barriers to Care in Patients with Cirrhosis, Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital, Belize City, Belize

    • Identifying patient-related and system-based barriers preventing patients with cirrhosis from being up to date on immunizations, variceal screening, and hepatocellular carcinoma screening.

  • 2017: Understanding Fasciola hepatica’s Resistance to Triclabendazole, Cusco, Peru

    • Extracted DNA from Fasciola hepatica from cow livers to identify a possible mechanism for developing resistance to anthelminthic drugs through bacterial coinfection of liver flukes.

  • 2011 – 2012: Wing Shape Divergence in Drosophila melanogaster, University of Houston

    • Bred various species of drosophila melanogaster to understand genetic factors involved in wing shape divergence between different phenotypes.

  • 2011: Effect of Troponin C Molecules in Early Onset Dilated Cardiomyopathy in Knock-In Mice, University of Houston, Texas

    • Studied physiological implications of different troponin C molecules on cardiac muscle relaxation in early onset dilated cardiomyopathy in knock-in mice.
