Professional Background

After earning his medical degree from Michigan State University, Hector Rodriguez, M.D, completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Blodgett Memorial Hospital. He decided to pursue a career in medicine as a means to help other people. His decision to work in Internal Medicine was inspired by a physician he knew during residency.  “I really gained an appreciation for working with older patients by observing this doctor address each patient’s concerns with sincere compassion.”

Hobbies and Interests

Dr. Rodriguez also enjoys working with his hands outside his medical practice. He spends a great deal of time gardening and is especially fond of the planting and care of flowers. Additionally, Dr. Rodriguez takes pleasure in woodworking and refinishing antique furniture.

I know how important it is to educate my patients about healthy lifestyles, as well as give them the tools to educate themselves. The most important part about my job is the quality of time I spend with my patients.

Awards & Recognitions

In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Rodriguez is collaborating with Melinda Stanley, Ph.D., at The University of Texas Mental Sciences Institute, and Anthony Greisinger, Ph.D., at the Kelsey Research Foundation, on a novel research study focusing on the needs of older adults with generalized anxiety disorder. “These psychological anxieties are often under-identified in the elderly population. With this study, we are able to augment medical treatment with behavioral therapy.” The study already has resulted in an article published in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry.
