Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Screens Hundreds at Feb. 12 Heart Health Day

Hundreds of downtown workers flocked to the Feb. 12 Heart Health Day event, hosted by medical staff from Kelsey-Seybold Clinic - Houston Center, The Shops at Houston Center and FS Houston.

The Heart Health Day event offered visitors an opportunity to learn their heart risks through blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index and weight screenings. Kelsey-Seybold physicians were on hand to review heart disease risk results and help guests understand the importance of health numbers like cholesterol and blood pressure. High blood pressure, considered the "silent killer," is the number one killer of women, which is why it's especially important for women to know what to expect when it comes to nutrition and exercise and ways to reduce their risks.

Downtown visitors and employees who missed the recent Heart Health Day event can still check up on their heart health by visiting the Know Your Number wellness stations on the Tunnel level under First City Tower, the City of Houston and the Houston Chronicle buildings. Visitors can check their blood pressure, body mass index, weight, heart rate and pulse-oxygen levels for free.

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic physicians and residents from the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic/Baylor College of Medicine family medicine residency program provided free health screenings and consultations to Heart Health Day visitors on Feb. 12 at The Shops at Houston Center, downtown. Second-year resident Dr. Kaustubh Mestry, right, checks Kathy Driscoll's blood sugar levels during a free screening.
