Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Hosts Feb. 12 Heart Health Day Event
Lunchtime event features free blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI screenings
Thump-thump. Thump-thump. That's the sound of a healthy heart, but most of us don't hear that often enough. In fact, millions of Americans go about their daily lives unaware of their heart's health. The sad fact is that nearly 81 million Americans have one or more types of cardiovascular disease, whether high blood pressure, high cholesterol or an arrhythmia.
That's why Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, in partnership with the Shops at Houston Center and FSHouston, will offer free heart health checks during the annual Heart Health Day event, Feb. 12 downtown. Kelsey-Seybold medical staff and physicians will be on hand to offer tips to reduce the risk of heart disease and answer visitors' health questions. The event is free, open to the public, and features free blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index screenings and will be held in the food court of the Shops at Houston Center from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Guests will have a chance to ask the doctor about their health numbers and will receive a free pedometer or heart-shaped stress ball.
"Our physicians and medical staff want a chance to meet and educate women downtown," said Alfreda Bell, M.D., a Kelsey-Seybold Family Medicine physician. "On Feb. 12, visitors will learn more about reducing their own risk of heart disease and understand the value of important health numbers like cholesterol and blood pressure."
