Breast Cancer Survivors Use Art to Share Their Stories
Women from Kelsey-Seybold Clinic’s Breast Cancer Support Group used the canvas to share their stories of survival. An art exhibit showcased these works on Oct. 8, 2009 in the Rotunda of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic’s Main Campus at 2727 West Holcombe Blvd.
For the exhibit, members of the group created works of art to express their battle with cancer and the joy of life after beating it. Three women were on hand to share their stories with patrons of the exhibit, which was open to the public.
This support group, sponsored by the Kelsey Research Foundation, the Kelsey-Seybold Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society, meets monthly at Kelsey-Seybold's Main Campus near the Texas Medical Center. It is designed to help women learn to live, understand and cope with a diagnosis of breast cancer.
Meetings are held at our Main Campus from 6 to 7:30 p.m. If you are interested in attending, please contact Joan Wolochin, LMSW, at 713-442-0461 or Tammie Anderson, LVN, at 713-442-0305. Light refreshments will be served.

Dorothy Stuppy is a four-year survivor of breast cancer. Her artwork reflects her journey to find her inner strength.

Frances Arzu’s collage represents where she is now, four years after being diagnosed. “At the time I did it, I was celebrating my recent breast reconstruction, which was a true celebration,” Frances said.

Mercy Siaotong, who works in Kelsey-Seybold Clinic’s Finance Department, depicts the support she gained through her family, friends, church, co-workers and the Kelsey-Seybold Breast Cancer Support Group in her collage.
