Kelsey-Seybold Clinic is the Greater Houston area’s most trusted name in healthcare. Founded in 1949 as a multi-specialty medical group practice in the “Mayo Clinic model,” the Kelsey-Seybold Medical Group employs more than 370 physicians in more than 52 areas of medical specialty.

In its care delivery model, Kelsey-Seybold credentials its own affiliate network of selected, non-employed physician specialists, and partners with high-quality hospital affiliates. Partner hospitals include the St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System, The Methodist Healthcare System, The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, Texas Children’s Hospital, and other nationally-recognized names.

While Kelsey-Seybold does not own its own hospitals, all partner facilities support the  Kelsey-Seybold Hospitalist Physician Team in coordinating the care of hospitalized patients.

Independent Benchmarking
Kelsey-Seybold partners with Cigna Healthcare to offer its coordinated-care health plan, “KelseyCare Powered by Cigna.” The plan is similar in structure to well-known plans including the Kaiser Permanente Health Plan and Scott & White Health Plan, both based on quality group medical practices.

Patient Care in a Coordinated Care Model, Supported by EMR
The focus of the entire Kelsey-Seybold organization is quality patient care. "Best practices” and “standards of excellence” are the benchmarks that Kelsey-Seybold Clinic strives toward. Kelsey-Seybold serves more than 400,000 patients each year at 20 patient care locations in the greater Houston area. Kelsey-Seybold operates two outpatient Ambulatory Surgical Centers, a specialized Sleep Center and 13 Kelsey Pharmacy locations. The group has invested heavily in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) technology, adopting the EPICare EMR system-wide as part of its drive for quality and patient satisfaction.

"Most Cost-Efficient Health Plan"
For the sixth year, Hewitt Associates has named KelseyCare “the region’s most cost-efficient health plan,” through its benchmarking study, the Hewitt Health Value Initiative (HHVI). KelseyCare also received the HHVI’s highest scores on quality measures.

Excellence in Diabetes Care
More than 72 Kelsey-Seybold physicians have attained NCQA’s highest certification for excellence in the care of patients with diabetes – a distinction unmatched by any other medical group in the State of Texas. Since 1966, Kelsey-Seybold has been the exclusive provider of onsite medical care at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, and currently provides care to staff and astronauts at two U.S. and one international location for the nation’s Space Program.

Eliminating Waste and Unnecessary Treatments, While Focusing On Prevention, Early Detection and Ongoing Intervention on Disease
Kelsey-Seybold physicians focus heavily on prevention, early detection and ongoing disease intervention. “Proactive” versus “reactive,” this interventional system consistently delivers a total lower medical cost.

Benchmarking studies from Hewitt Associates, private employers, and Cigna Healthcare consistently support these findings.

Kelsey-Seybold physicians adhere to the principles of evidence-based medicine. Studies estimate that more than 30 percent of medical treatments and procedures in the US are of marginal or low value. Eliminating waste and unnecessary treatment, while proactively managing disease, are hallmarks of the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic group medical practice.

Three hundred and seventy physicians practicing in a common organization, with a common focus and philosophy, truly can make a difference in the quality and cost of care. We're committed to delivering superior care and extraordinary convenience at a lower total medical cost for individuals, families and employers faced with ever-rising health care expenses.

KelseyCare – Houston’s Most Cost-Effective Health Care Plan
For six years, KelseyCare, the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic health benefits plan offered on the Cigna Healthcare platform, has been named the “most cost-effective health plan in the market.” This rating comes from Hewitt Health Value Initiative™, the independent, healthcare efficiency and performance rating aggregator of health plans in all major metropolitan areas.

With the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Select Network strategy, all physicians focus on the early identification, intervention and ongoing monitoring of diseases at all states. This approach results in a 15 to 25 percent savings over other “broad network” plans, which are often plagued with wasteful, unnecessary treatments caused by lack of coordination and variation in medical practice.
