In 1979, Dr. García-Torres became an active staff member at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. Since 2004, Dr. García-Torres has served as Liaison to Kelsey-Seybold Clinic's Ambulatory Surgery Center. He currently cares for GI patients at the Main Campus each week.
Professional Background
Dr. García-Torres earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Nassau County Medical Center, in East Meadow, New York. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Philadelphia Naval Regional Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Currently, Dr. García-Torres is a Clinical Associate Professor in Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.
Clinical Interests
He has a special interest in esophageal motility disorders, and heads a specialized laboratory at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital that focuses on these disorders.

Dr. García-Torres is a member of several medical societies, including: the American College of Physicians, the American Gastroenterology Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the Texas Medical Association, the Houston Gastroenterology Society, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Harris County Medical Society. Dr. Garcia-Torres is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.
He is the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee for the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. Additionally, he is involved as a speaker for regular functions at the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America and at Baylor College of Medicine.
Hobbies and Special Interests
A native of Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, Dr. García-Torres enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Magda García and their three children. He regularly participates in community activities. Dr. García-Torres is heavily involved as Coordinator of the Hispanic Extraordinary Ministers of Eucharist at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and with that Hispanic community he teaches catechism to adults. Dr. García-Torres participated in a medical mission trip to El Salvador in November 2004 and plans to return in 2005.
