When it comes to taking good care of their family, the Wallaces of Clear Lake rely on their KelseyCare health plan and make good use of all of the conveniences and services this plan offers. For them, KelseyCare’s coordinated care just works better for all the members of the family.

“When I had serious problems with my gall bladder, Dr. Mitchell recommended a good surgeon and personally called and got me in to see him when his schedule was very tight,” Gay says. “He stayed in communication with the surgeon, followed my progress and demonstrated good follow-up after the surgery.
 
She prizes the doctor/patient relationship they have developed. “When I come in for an appointment, he remembers me and what’s going on in my life. That means a lot,” she adds.
 
Pediatric Care That Goes the Extra Mile – Even After Hours
Her daughter, Anne Marie, has also benefited from the personalized care she has received from her pediatrician, Dr. Patti Reddell.
 
As back-to-school time approached after a bad tropical storm, Mrs. Wallace realized that the immunization records for Anne Marie had been lost. “Dr. Reddell was dismayed,” Mrs. Wallace says, “because she said that she didn’t want Anne Marie to have to take a lot of unnecessary shots. So Dr. Reddell and her medical team called Anne Marie’s schools and helped collect the missing information.”
Like any school-aged child, Anne Marie has had her share of illnesses that don’t happen during regular doctor’s hours, so the Wallaces keep the phone number for the After-Hours Nurse Hotline on their refrigerator.
 
“More than once I’ve called the After-Hours Nurse Hotline and worked with one of Kelsey-Seybold’s registered nurses who talked me through what was happening with Anne Marie late at night when she was sick. Not only did they advise me on what to do when she had a high fever, they’ve helped me make pediatric appointments.”
 
Keeping Tabs On a Chronic Condition
Thanks to KelseyCare, Charles Wallace also feels good about the care he receives for keeping tabs on his diabetes.
 
“The doctors take time with you and answer questions,” he says, “My doctors are easy to talk to and ask the right questions.”
He also noted that they had special equipment to test for certain nerve damage that sometimes occurs with this disease.
 
In addition, he appreciates the fact that he receives periodic reminders from KelseyCare’s case managers about appropriate care and appointments necessary to manage his diabetes.
 
The Magic of Electronic Medical Records
Both Gay and Charles have had good experiences with Kelsey-Seybold’s electronic medical records. More than a year ago, Charles was having pain in his foot and came in for an examination.
 
“I really appreciate the fact that everyone is connected so well electronically,” he says. “I went to get an X-ray and by the time I got back to my doctor’s office, the pictures were up on his computer in the examining room. It was better than a light box and no waiting.”
 
After an unexpected emergency room visit, Gay came in for a follow-up with Dr. Mitchell.
 
“I apologized for not bringing my records or film,” she says. “But Dr. Mitchell said ‘No problem.’ He already had all the X-rays and reports from the ER in his system.”

In this busy family in which all members need to keep up with their regular medical care as well as unexpected doctor visits, it’s no wonder that the Wallaces make good use of MyKelseyOnline, the Web-based portal that allows them to stay close to their Kelsey-Seybold medical team, schedule appointments and more, from the convenience of their computer, 24-hours a day, seven-days-a week.
 
“With so much going on, we sometimes forget to make appointments during the day,” Gay says, “and so it’s very convenient to log on to MyKelseyOnline at night and weekends to make appointments or to check test results.”
 
The large number of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic locations also works well for them. “We have two clinics here in Clear Lake with physicians we like and trust,” Charles says, “and if we need to see a specialist at the Main Campus, it’s very easy to get there.”

Charles is positive about his experiences and the quality of care and service. In his words, “The whole KelseyCare system is just very easy to use and very comfortable.”
 
“And no matter where we go, everyone is helpful and caring. I guess that’s why you could say we’re a very satisfied KelseyCare family,” concludes Gay.
