Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Hosts Pediatric Obesity Event

Event features expert panel discussion and Healthy Little Chefs’ Corner
WHAT: A Kelsey-Seybold team of experts on childhood obesity will host a Saturday morning seminar for parents to learn effective ways to combat this problem. A Kelsey-Seybold pediatrician, a nutritionist, a childhood development specialist and a parent will host a panel discussion and address questions about healthy eating habits and ways to reduce a child's risk for heart disease and other health problems. A gourmet chef will also entertain parents and kids with an interactive healthy lunch event after the discussion. Take-home recipe books will also be offered.

WHY: Childhood obesity has become a national health crisis. According to a 2004 report by the Institute of Medicine, approximately 9 million American children over age 6 are considered obese. But there is good news. Most cases of childhood obesity can be controlled and reversed through simple lifestyle changes such as healthier diet and more exercise, which is why it's especially important for parents to learn about nutrition and exercise and ways to reduce their child's
