HOUSTON (Nov. 19, 2007) —Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, Houston’s largest community-based physician group, opened a new 28,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art clinic and pharmacy in northwest Houston this week. Kelsey-Seybold Clinic – Cypress is part of an existing 80,000-square-foot medical building, located at 13114 FM 1960, at the intersection of Highways 6, 290 and FM 1960.
The move comes because of the continuing growth in northwest Houston and the much-needed space to serve patients effectively. The new Cypress Clinic is the new home for physicians and staff previously housed at Kelsey-Seybold’s Copperfield Clinic. On Friday, Nov. 16, Kelsey-Seybold closed its existing Copperfield location and, on Monday, Nov. 19 opened its Cypress Clinic doors to see patients.
The Cypress Clinic is part of Kelsey-Seybold’s strategy of growth along the northwest corridor Hwy 6/FM 1960. “As the northwest communities continue to expand, so do local families’ needs for comprehensive and convenient medical services,” said Spencer Berthelsen, M.D., Chairman, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Board of Directors. “At our new facility, patients can visit their physician, have clinical laboratory services or diagnostic procedures performed, and have prescriptions filled all under one roof and in their neighborhood.”
“Along the FM 1960 corridor, we’ll have more than 200,000 square feet of brand new medical office space; and 75 full-time practicing physicians in the next two years,” said Dr. Berthelsen.
The Cypress Clinic offers local families many new services and improved parking areas. Patients have immediate access to pharmacy services and several new medical specialists including orthopedics and sports medicine, as well as existing care in obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics.
Further expansion of services is planned for 2008 and includes state-of-the-art diagnostic services like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), CT and a new electronic medical record (EMR). The EMR technology will roll out in February and will ultimately streamline patients’ experiences at their visit, as well as enhance the quality of care they receive.
EMR will enable Kelsey-Seybold physicians practicing in various specialties to consult on patients’ cases, and will provide them with real-time access to a patient’s medical record and available lab and radiology test results at the point of care. It will also automatically prompt physicians of abnormal test results, enabling physicians to more easily monitor and treat patients who have complex or chronic medical conditions. Additionally, if a physician prescribes new medication, he or she will be able to send the prescription to Kelsey-Seybold’s onsite pharmacy electronically, so that patients can pick it up after their visit.
“In addition to this new clinic, we are currently building a new medical and diagnostic center at The Vintage, and we are planning an expansion of services for our existing Spring location, where we recently completed the addition of a new Cancer Center in late April 2007,” Dr. Berthelsen added.
The new Cypress clinic is just minutes away from the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic – Copperfield location. Kelsey-Seybold Clinic – Cypress and the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce plan to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony in February 2008.
