Kelsey Research Foundation Celebrates Its History and Accomplishments
“Generations of Families Serving Houston: An Honor and Tradition of Public Service” program honors Foundation’s founding trustees

HOUSTON, TX (February 7, 2003) – Kelsey Research Foundation, the research division of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, recently hosted “Generations of Families Serving Houston: An Honor and Tradition of Public Service,” which celebrated the Foundation’s history and accomplishments.

The event helped raise awareness and more than $240,000 in funds to support the Foundation’s health research programs, including the Cancer Prevention Center to improve early diagnosis of prostate, breast and colorectal cancer, the Epilepsy Education Program, the Congestive Heart Failure Program, the Diabetes Management Program and many other healthcare projects.

The Foundation’s founding trustees and supporters were recognized during the evening for their dedication, contributions and commitment.  Honorees included:  Thomas D. Anderson; F. Fox Benton, Jr., (posthumously); Earl Beard, M.D.; Earl Brewer, M.D.; Mimi Dompier; Stanton P. Fischer, M.D.; Jackie Greer; William C. Harvin; John R. Kelsey, Jr. M.D.; Mavis P. Kelsey, Sr., M.D.; James Kemper, M.D.; William D. Seybold, M.D.; C. Jim Stewart, II; Madelyn Vercellino; and J. Cooke Wilson, Jr.

Special guest Dr. Denton A. Cooley presented keynote remarks on the subject “Generations of Service.”  Cooley praised the Foundation and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic for their “unequalled contributions in the advancement of healthcare in Houston.  He described Dr. Mavis Kelsey as a “real hero in Houston medicine and healthcare.” More than 350 attended the program, including David Underwood, chairman of the board, Texas Medical Center, who offered a brief tribute and testimonial to the Foundation.  Also in attendance was Dr. Hugh Butt, who traveled from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. for the event.
