What the H1N1 Vaccine Recall Means for Your Children

HOUSTON, TX (12/17/2009) As you may have heard in news reports, Sanofi Pasteur has recalled some of the pediatric doses of the vaccine against H1N1 influenza because of declining potency - but the vaccine is safe and is still expected to be protective, according to the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The vaccine affected by this recall is specifically the injectable preservative-free vaccine for children between the ages of six months to 35 months.

The recall poses no dangers to your children if they have been immunized. Parents with children between the ages of six months to 35 months who have received the recalled H1N1 vaccine do not need to take any action. Parents should only ensure that their children get a second dose one month after receiving the first dose if they have not already done so, which is a normal procedure.

If your children have not been immunized, we highly recommend you schedule an appointment and have them immunized as soon as possible, as we are still in the flu season.
