2009 S.A.D. Awards Recipients

Awards Presented June 12, 2009

The Hilton Houston Plaza was the site for the BCM/Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Family Medicine Residency Program's fifth annual Senior Appreciation Dinner (S.A.D.). The dinner honors our six graduating residents, the teaching efforts of our great faculty and the outstanding support from our wonderful nursing staff.

The Kelsey Research Foundation sponsors the John R. Kelsey, Jr. M.D. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching and the Kelsey-Seybold Award for Outstanding Resident in Family Medicine. The award recipients are selected by residents, faculty and staff.

The Kelsey-Seybold Award for Outstanding Resident in Family Medicine is presented to the resident who demonstrates strong leadership skills, consistently performs and completes tasks and responsibilities inherent to the residency and demonstrates excellence with regard to the multiple aspects of patient care. The resident also facilitates communication among the health care team, maintains a high level of professionalism and exhibits the qualities of respect, compassion, and integrity. Finally the resident must display commitment to patient education, preventative care and complete a quality improvement or research project that demonstrates potential to improve the delivery of healthcare at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic.

The John R. Kelsey, Jr. M.D. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching is presented to the Kelsey faculty physician who demonstrates interest and excellence in teaching and is committed to teaching the principles of Family Medicine to our residents. He or she must demonstrate a commitment to patient education and community outreach, serve as role model and mentor to residents and is valued as a teacher by peers and patients. This faculty physician also creates a supportive environment conducive to learning and displays a devotion to his/her patients, practice and community.

The Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Family Medicine Residency Award for Excellence in Nursing is sponsored by our Family Medicine faculty, selected by the residents and is awarded to the nurse who provides exceptional care to patients, demonstrates positive attitude and willingness to help in multiple situations, treats residents respectfully, maintains professional interaction with patients, colleagues and physicians, and understands, supports and participates in the training of family medicine resident physicians.
