Meet Veronica Juarez, RD, LD, CDE

Veronica Juarez, RD, LD, CDE has been a dietitian with Kelsey-Seybold Clinic since November, 2001 and was named Supervisor of the Nutritional Services Department in the Spring of 2006. She received her biology degree from St. Mary’s University and her degree in Human Nutrition and Foods from the University of Houston.

Veronica has hosted a weekly nutrition segment on Sunny 99.1 KODA, the Dana and Marc show, for nearly four years in addition to maintaining the “Ask Veronica” column on the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Web site in which a new diet or nutrition-related question is answered every Monday. Veronica was also named one of the Top 10 individuals who have contributed to the Houston Hispanic community for 2005 by Bravo Houston, an English insert in Semana Weekly.

The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) announced in December 2006 that Veronica Juarez, RD, LD, CDE has achieved Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE®) status by successfully completing the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators. Candidates must meet rigorous credential and professional practice experience requirements to be eligible to take the examination. Achieving the CDE credential demonstrates to patients and employers that the health care professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for patients with diabetes.

Veronica’s areas of special interest include:

  • Providing basic medical nutrition therapy for children and adults

  • Completing recipe and food analysis

  • Providing specialized medical nutrition counseling for patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity

  • Marketing nutrition programs

Whether she is working with a child or adult, her approach to nutrition and diet counseling is to provide her patients with comprehensive education and resources about diet-related diseases and conditions. The goal is to enable her patients to make knowledgeable and informed decisions about their health and diet.

Veronica married Miguel Juarez, Jr. on October 25, 2003 and has 1 son, Quentin Alejandro. Outside of work, she follows her own advice by not keeping junk food in the house, exercising 5 to 7 days a week and eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
