Kelsey-Seybold surgeon Gilchrist L. Jackson, MD, was recently named to the third edition of America’s Top Doctors, a listing of the nation’s leading physicians and specialists. Castle Connolly, a renowned, physician-directed research team, selected the book’s list from more than 25,000 nominees.
Dr. Jackson, who has been with Kelsey-Seybold Clinic since 1981, specializes in Head and Neck Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Endocrine Surgery Advanced Laparoscopic Abdominal Surgery, Gastrointestinal Surgery and Melanoma (Skin Cancer) Surgery. After graduating with high honors from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, he completed residencies at Parkland Memorial Hospital (Dallas) and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He later completed a Fellowship at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and spent an additional year on faculty specializing in Surgical Oncology and Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Jackson, who is Board certified in Surgery, is on the medical staff of St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital and serves as Associate Clinical Professor at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Jackson’s professional associations include the American College of Surgeons, International Society of Surgery, American Head and Neck Society, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, American Cancer Society, Texas Surgical Society, Houston Surgical Society, Harris County Medical Society and Texas Medical Association.
Founded in 1992, Castle Connolly relies heavily on peer nominations to compile its list of physicians for America’s Top Doctors. Among those surveyed are hospital presidents; vice presidents of medical affairs; vice presidents of Nursing; and chiefs of service in Anesthesiology, OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology and Surgery. The organization also surveys randomly selected physicians from many specialties. After the surveys are completed and the candidates are chosen, Castle Connolly’s physician-led research staff reviews and refines the pool of candidates by validating nominations and verifying credentials.
