Two long-time international patients -- Fermin Larregui (left) from Mexico City and Luis Guillermo Bohorquez from Venezuela - enjoy the Open House festivities along with Dr. P. K. Champion.

Three generations from Brazil stopped by the Open House to say hello to Gabriel Tellez and our international staff. The grandfather, mother and children all traveled to Houston for their annual physical exams.

An open house for Kelsey-Seybold Clinic's international patients was held on March 19th in the Mavis & Mary Kelsey Specialty Suite during a busy spring break. Nine international patients traveled to Kelsey-Seybold Clinic for their annual physical exams. Many of these patients had been coming for decades, but this was the first year that they had a special place where they could relax or make business calls before and after their medical tests and procedures. Our "special guests" were treated to a delicious lunch buffet and a chance to spend time with our international doctors and staff.

Luis Guillermo Bohorquez from Venezuela has been coming to Kelsey-Seybold for 18 years to see Dr. Carlos Taboada. "He takes very good care of me, and Marie (his interpreter/representative for the past two years) is very attentive to my needs."

Fermin Larregui from Mexico City has been coming to Kelsey-Seybold Clinic for 50 years - back when the clinic "was just a small building with three floors," he noted. Dr. Mavis Kelsey was his first physician. Mr. Larregui liked all the amenities in the Mavis & Mary Kelsey Suite. "It's a very good idea for foreign patients to have a special place between tests," he said.

Mr. and Mrs. Lopez from Guadalajara, Mexico, have been coming to Kelsey-Seybold Clinic for 11 years. "You almost don't mind being sick in a beautiful suite like this," Mrs. Lopez remarked. "Everyone is so kind to us here. We feel very comfortable with Marie and Carlos and with our doctors."

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic is staffed and experienced to serve the diverse needs of international patients and their families. "We offer interpreters who speak Spanish and many other languages, along with the convenience and privacy of the Mavis & Mary Kelsey Specialty Suite, a single location for most diagnostic tests and exams, and personalized assistance in scheduling appointments," said Rebecca S. Leal, Supervisor of International Services. "We also offer assistance in booking travel and overnight accommodations at discounted rates."

Whatever the reason for an international patient's visit - a consultation with a specialty physician or a comprehensive health assessment - Kelsey-Seybold's international team makes sure our "special guests" have a pleasant and comfortable stay with us.

Seated (L-R): Our International Team includes Rebecca Leal, Supervisor and Carlos Pineda, Specialist. Standing (L-R): Marie Kime, Specialist; Lupita Torres, LVN Coordinator; Laura Hartaway, Specialist; and Carlos Aguilar, Representative.
